MECHANICAL DESIGN

The best design is often the simplest one.

  • Finding innovative ways to make the product simpler, more reliable and less costly
  • Based on extensive experience, attention to detail and a practical, hands on approach

FLUID, GAS AND HYDRAULIC SYSTEM DESIGN

  • Hydraulic system design, including sizing and selection of hydraulic valves, pumps, cylinders and other components
  • Design of and selection of components for water systems and systems for handling gases
  • Custom design of special application valves and other components for fluid or gas systems

MANUFACTURING
H. Dasken works with various machine shops, welding and fabrication shops to get parts made to the required specifications and tolerances, including quality of fit and finish.

  • Building the finished assembly
  • Testing prototypes or one off designs to ensure correct functionality
  • Performance testing mechanical designs
  • Function testing hydraulic or gas systems
  • Life cycle testing

TUBE BENDING
Hugh Dasken is highly regarded for his skill in bending stainless steel tubing for undersea vehicles.

  • Hydraulics systems
  • Air, oxygen and other gasses for life support systems
  • Water piping

MANUALS and DOCUMENTATION

  • Operation and maintenance manuals
  • Technical reports and documentation

TRAINING
Hugh Dasken has an Instructor’s Diploma and has conducted training on a number of occasions. Some of these are listed below:

Undersea Vehicles Course

Created the 36-hour course Undersea Vehicles and taught it four times at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

  • The course was intended for people involved in the design and operation of manned submersibles and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), and provided an introduction to the concepts of designing an underwater vehicle.
  • End of course evaluations ranked the course 5 out of 5 in many categories

Operations and Maintenance Training

  • Trained the Canadian Navy manned submersible SDL I operator-maintainers in the functioning of the life support gas and ballast systems
  • Trained the US Navy PRMS rescue submersible operator-maintainers in the functioning of the oxygen system and mating skirt dewatering systems

Tube Bending Training

  • Trains technicians in the science and art of tube bending
